PASS THE PARCEL
This is a classic party game that all children love. A mystery gift is wrapped in several layers of paper. The paper is peeled off one layer at a time by a different child each time, depending on when the music stops playing. It's a great idea to play this before serving the snack as the group will be calm and attentive during and after the game. There are three variations on how to play listed below.

MATERIALS NEEDED
  • A gift to be used as the prize
  • Newspaper (enough sheets to wrap the prize 15 times)
  • Sweets/chocolates to place between each layer of paper (so everyone gets a prize along the way)
  • Cello tape
  • Music to suit the age of your guests
  • CD player or tape deck to play the music from
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Wrap the gift in a layer of paper. Then wrap it in another layer and repeat until you have 10-15 layers. (You might like to use gift paper for the final layer to make it more fun)
  2. Sit everyone in a circle and play a short snippet of music
  3. When the music stops, the person holding the parcel removes ONE layer of wrapping
  4. The music is played again and the parcel is passed around and the process is repeated
  5. Repeat until the last layer of wrapping has been removed
  6. The winner keeps the present

Version 1
Play the game as stated above

Version 2
Stick a sweet, lollipop or chocolate onto each layer of paper so that each child who peels off a layer gets a small prize. Play the game as described above.

Version 3
Write forfeits on small pieces of paper and stick one onto each layer of paper so that when a player removes the paper he/she/the whole group has to do the forfeit before the music can start and the game continue. Play the game as described above.

 ASSOCIATED GAMES
 PRICE IS RIGHT
This is a fun, exciting way to wind-down your party and makes a game out of handing out the going-away favours. Guests guess the price of a going-away gift, the player who guessed the closest keeps the gift.
 BALLOON BOUNCE
In this game your guests will compete to see who can keep the balloon in the air the longest. The catch is that they can only use a particular part of the body, either their head, nose, knees, elbows etc. It can also be played in teams.
 MUSICAL CHAIRS
This is another children's favourite. Set up chairs in 2 rows back to back. Put out one less chair than there are children. Start playing music, and have the kids walk around the chairs (not touching the chairs though!) until the music stops. When the music stops, the kids must each sit on a chair. The child without a chair is "out". Then remove another chair. If there is ever a tie, the child with more bum on the chair wins.
 MUSICAL STATUES
This game does not need much explanation, or props. A favourite with the kids.
 PASS THE BALLOON
This lively game is lots of fun to watch and even more fun to play. It is played in teams and involves passing a balloon from one person to the next without using any hands. The first team to pass the balloon all the way to the end is the winner.
